PATIENCE that endures (forbearance) = not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting. The capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset; endurance. The Greek word for patience is taken from a verb that means “ever tapping” or “never quitting.”

Have you ever tried TAPPING into patience?

But what do we do? How do we practice patience? How do we make it a reality? What do we do about the part of us that is screaming like a toddler… “But I don’t want to be patient! I want it now!”

Two steps: 1. Acknowledge that this part of you exists. Just saying, “Yup, I’m not being patient…” can be enough to trigger change. 2. Tap to release those anxious feelings.

Nick Ortner, The Tapping Solution

I would encourage you to give it a try! Tapping is a simple, yet powerful technique to boost emotional health.

Pariksaha (Sanskrit) = patience and forbearance

“With tender humility and quiet patience, always demonstrate gentleness and generous love toward one another, especially toward those who may try your patience.” Ephesians 4:2 The Passion Translation

“A wise person demonstrates patience, for mercy means holding your tongue. When you are insulted, be quick to forgive and forget it, for you are virtuous when you overlook an offense.” Proverbs 19:11 The Passion Translation

“And patient endurance will refine our character; and proven character leads us back to hope.” Romans 5:4 The Passion Translation

I pause, breathe, and then respond.
I am patient with myself and others.
I accept delay, trouble or suffering without getting angry or upset.
Patient endurance refines my character.

OPENING MEDITATION

Think of a time you experienced complete PATIENCE.
It may be a recent happening, or from the past.
Picture it clearly in your heart and mind.
Feel all the emotions.
What sensations do you feel in the body?
Where do you feel these sensations?
Label your emotions with one word.
Label the sensations felt with one word.
Tuck these words deep into your memory account of PATIENCE.

CLOSING MEDITATION

“Wait quietly in my presence while My thoughts form silently in the depths of your being. Do not rush this process, because hurry keeps your heart earthbound. I am the Creator of the entire universe, yet I choose to make my humble home in your heart. It is there where you know me most intimately; it is there where I speak to you in holy whispers. Ask My Spirit to quiet your mind so that you can hear my still small voice within you. I am speaking to you continually. . . words of PATIENCE. Tune your heart to receive these messages of abundant blessing. Lay your requests before Me, and wait in expectation.”
(Adapted from Jesus Calling, September 21, by Sarah Young)

“And I pray that he would unveil within you the unlimited riches of his glory and favor until supernatural strength floods your innermost being with his divine might and explosive power. Then, by constantly using your faith, the life of Christ will be released deep inside you, and the resting place of his love will become the very source and root of your life.” Ephesians 3:16-17, The Passion Translation

Fruit of the Spirit: JOY

JOY (gladness) that overflows = A source or cause of keen pleasure or delight; something exceptionally festive or satisfying.

Ananda (Sanskrit) = the condition of utter joy

Sukha (Sanskrit) = happiness, pleasure, ease, joy or bliss

Life is a constant ebb and flow. Challenges attempt to disrupt our ease and peace, but as we intentionally cultivate joy, our energy steadies and positively shifts.

“…when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4 New Living Translation

What brings you joy in this moment?

What are you looking forward to that makes you smile?

Take a minute to daydream and plan for joy. Allow yourself to be light and free.

I ______ to cultivate more joy into my life.
No matter my circumstances, I choose to be joyful.
Divine joy fills my soul.

“My purpose for telling you these things is so that the joy that I experience will fill your hearts with overflowing gladness! So this is my command: Love each other deeply, as much as I have loved you. For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life for his friends.” John 15:11-13 The Passion Translation

Fruit of the Spirit 9-Week Yoga Series

This year has proven how CRAZY this world is, and how things can change in a heartbeat. God has been prompting me to increase the fruit of the Spirit in my life — divine love in all its varied expressions — and to encourage others in these qualities. Our world will be a much better place when our hearts, minds, and souls are rooted in LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, and SELF-CONTROL.

Please join me for this 9-week yoga series exploring each fruit of the Spirit beginning Friday, October 9, 2020. Click my class schedule to join locally in-person or from anywhere via ZOOM at Moment of Truth Healing Space.

Galatians 5:22-23, The Passion Translation 22–23 But the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit within you is divine love in all its varied expressions: joy that overflows, peace that subdues, patience that endures, kindness in action, a life full of virtue, faith that prevails, gentleness of heart, and strength of spirit. Never set the law above these qualities, for they are meant to be limitless.

Galatians 5:22-23, Amplified Bible 22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.

FRUIT = karpos (Greek) = can be translated “harvest.”

SPIRIT = pneuma (Greek) = breath, wind, Holy presence of God on earth

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT = harvest of breath—the Holy presence of God; divine love in all its varied expressions, limitless

“I am the Vine, you are the branches. When you’re joined with me and I with you, the relation intimate and organic, the harvest is sure to be abundant. Separated, you can’t produce a thing.” John 15:5, The Message

“You can identify them by their fruit, that is by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Matthew 7:16-20, New Living Translation
